Accounts

Every business needs to prepare accounts, whether it is to use to prepare your tax return or to file at Companies House. This is a compliance cost that every business has to suffer, however we would rather that cost be an investment into helping to run your business in a more financially viable way, as opposed to it just being a cost that is lost money.

We would not only like to see your records, and you after your financial year is over, but we would also like to do it part way through your year so that we can see how your business is preforming, calculate the potential tax liability to help you plan for the cashflow, or to identify areas of reducing it before the year is out.

If you have a trust, we can also complete those accounts for you as well.

Company secretarial

Running a company comes hand in hand with mundane statutory paperwork. We can take the pain of this away for you. On an annual basis we will;

  • prepare and file your confirmation statement,
  • prepare and file your accounts (under FRS 105 or FRS 102),
  • prepare your dividend vouchers and accompanying board minutes,
  • maintain your statutory books

If you require any changes to the company or board, we will prepare and file the relevant forms, minutes, and resolutions where applicable.

Bookkeeping

Every business must maintain financial records, which can take your time away from focusing on the trade of the business. After a long day of working, the last thing people look forward to is an evening sorting out paperwork.

If you want some of your time back, we can take on the bookkeeping needs for you on a basis that is convenient for you, be it weekly, monthly or quarterly.

Keeping records up-to-date and current will allow you to make timely and informal decisions.

We have partnered with both Xero and QuickBooks to offer a digital platform to maintain your financial records. If you use another software package please get in touch, as we have experience in using many others.

Making Tax Digital (MTD) for Income Tax is a major UK Government initiative coming in from April 2026.  Businesses and landlords affected will need to keep their records digitally and submit quarterly reports to HMRC to stay compliant.  This scheme will start with businesses (and landlords) who have turnover in excess of £50,000, dropping to £30,000 from April 2027 and then £20,000 from April 2028.  Please give one of our team a call to discuss how we can help.

Management accounts

Whether you carry out the bookkeeping or have us do it for you, we can prepare management accounts for you. These reports will be tailored to you, to contain the information that will be beneficial for you and/or the needs for the management accounts (for example for the bank).

Corporation tax

All limited companies must submit a corporation tax return, accompanying their accounts, unless HMRC has been informed that the company is dormant.

The preparation of your accounts is the first stage into calculating your tax liability. We will review your asset investments to identify your capital allowance potential, thus reducing your tax liability.

VAT

VAT is one of the most complex taxes imposed on businesses today.

There are a number of different decisions to make when running a VAT scheme, including the frequency of filing a return (monthly, quarterly or annually), if you are going to apply for the cash or accruals basis, if you calculate the VAT on a flat-rate or standard basis.

We can assist with:

  • VAT registration
  • MTD (making tax digital) registration
  • Group VAT registration
  • Filling of your VAT return (prepared by you or us)

Self-assessment

If you are self-employed, with income exceeding £1,000, a partner in a partnership, have rental income exceeding £1,000 or other untaxed income, you will be required to file a tax return to HMRC each year.

The world of tax is ever changing and getting more complicated. We can prepare and file your tax return for you, ensuring you claim the correct deductions, thus minimising your tax liability.

If you have a trust, we can also complete their tax returns as well.

Inheritance tax

Inheritance tax could be an unnecessary evil. With adequate planning it is possible to reduce this tax, thus reducing the burden on those left behind, and also providing them with a larger gift.

Being prepared for the inevitable is the best way to reduce this tax. By knowing how much you are worth, making sure your will is up to date and utilising your annual tax exempt gifts are all ways to minimise this tax liability.

Contact us if you would like to discuss your options, and we can calculate the value of your estate, to identify if it will incur inheritance tax liability upon your death, to identify if you need to think about methods to reduce this.

Remuneration planning

Remuneration planning is designed to give you the same income you are used to, but at a lower cost, or identify the best way to get more income to yourself without incurring excessive tax liability.

The methods of remuneration planning differ depending on the style of your business, i.e. if you are a sole trader, partnership or limited company.

Contact us if you would like to discuss your options, and we can calculate your options to show you the potential savings.

Business start-up

If you are thinking of starting a business, you will need to decide if you want to operate as a sole trade, partnership, limited company, or another structure.

As with everything, there are pros and cons to each structure, and only you will know which suits your needs.

If you want to start your own business, as a sole trader or partnership, we can help you with the relevant HMRC registrations.

If you would rather trade through a limited company, we can get a company created for you, and help fulfil your statutory requirements.

Contact us if you would like to discuss your options, and we can calculate your options to show you the potential costs and savings of functioning through the different structures.
