A little bit more about the BKB team
Becky Hearn, ACA, BA Hons
I am proud to be a farmer’s daughter and grew up on the farm just outside Tavistock. Whilst a career in agriculture is not for me, due to a fear of large animals, I have always wanted to remain connected with the agricultural sector somehow. Everything clicked into place, whilst studying A-levels Business Studies. A career in accountancy was perfect to link my passion for numbers and desire to stay in the agricultural industry, after all, who wants to do paperwork after a long day out in the field!?
In 2006 I completed my Accountancy and Business Management degree at Gloucester University, then returned to the Tavistock area to work in practice and complete future accountancy qualifications (namely AAT (Association of Accounting Technicians) and ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales)).
Outside of work, I have been trying to renovate my home (which feels like a never-ending task) but has meant I have learnt some new skills that I never thought I would, including plastering, tiling, installing plumbing and electrics. I also enjoy the freedom of going for a ride on a motorbike (pillion only), and marvelling at the sea, either sat on the sand or scuba diving. Family is also extremely important to me, there is never a dull moment during family gatherings.
Becky Cole, BA Hons, ATT
After growing up many miles away from Devon and Cornwall a family decision to move south lead me to Gunnislake and then on to Plymouth University.
Whilst completing my business degree at Plymouth University I took a tax module which sparked my interest and has taken me on the path to working within tax within the accountancy sector. It is my aim to make the ‘tax doesn’t have to be taxing’ slogan so readily bounded about and actually make it true!
In my time away from the office you will find me helping out on our family farm (usually moving sheep) and trying to keep up with our little boy.
Andrew Griffiths, MAAT, ATT
I have lived and worked in the Tavistock area my whole life, going to school at Tavistock College and playing Rugby for the town. I’m married to a fantastic and hard-working wife who runs a coal distribution company, and we have two amazing kids.
In my spare time you will often find me at Tavistock Rugby club, either coaching my son’s junior Rugby team, or helping behind the scenes with the senior & junior committees. The Rugby club has given me a lot of joy over the years, and so I like to give a bit back.
It was whilst I was in the sixth form at school, studying Maths and Business Studies, that I thought Accountancy might just be where my future lay, and sure enough 25+ years later and I’m happily still in the industry working with small businesses to help them achieve their goals.
I’m a big fan of letting technology do the leg work and if it can help ease some of the admin burden for my clients, then they can find more time to do what they do best. As a qualified Xero advisor, I feel I’m definitely well placed to guide BKB clients with any Xero queries they may have.
